Nanny Knows About the Club!
In the front of The Country Club are the indoor-outdoor runs, with the indoor room being heated or air-conditioned and the outdoor run having all the familiar sounds and smells of outdoors. Most of the guests staying here are used to being outdoors much of the time at home and they enjoy the freedom to come and go through the pet door as they please. I make sure that they got a good nights sleep and that their food is appetizing. I also make sure that they all get a turn on the yard two or three times a day. After assuring myself that all is well in the front of the Country Club, I go through the kitchen, where the staff is busy loading the dishwasher with all of the mornings dishes, and head for the back.

The back of The Country Club is where all of the indoor rooms are. Most of the guests staying here are used to staying indoors where it is heated and air-conditioned and going out for recreation or bathroom necessities. The rooms here are big and it is possible for two big dogs or several small dogs from the same home to share a room if they want. All of the dogs at The Country Club are fed twice a day and let out on the yard two or three times a day, depending on the weather. When the weather is nice, they enjoy staying on the yard and playing but, if the weather is cold or rainy, I've found that they would rather just take care of the necessities and come back in. We try to accommodate them the best we can because we want all of our guests to be well pleased.

I try to stay on top of things and make everyone's stay as pleasant as possible. It was my idea to put the pigs ears, pigs snouts, calves hoofs and bones at the proper level so that our guests could pick out a special treat. It is such a delight for me to see them sniffing around, picking out just the right treat for their stay. Some guests, like Callie Thompson, always pick out a treat for their stay and another one to take home when they leave. I also put smaller dog treats up high where they can get help picking theirs out. I have noticed that our peanut butter cookies are a favorite with everyone. In the entrance to the Country Club, we also have an assortment of collars, leashes, coats and toiletries to meet any needs.

After I am content that all of our overnight guests are pleased with their accommodations, I head back to the grooming room to see who has arrived for their appointment. I consult with the guests who are there for haircuts or baths to see if they have any skin problems or itching. I try to determine which ones need medicated or flea shampoos or, perhaps, just an oatmeal shampoo for sensitive skin. Sometimes, I recommend special treatment for eyes, ears or feet. I feel that it is my responsibility to see that everyone receives what would be most beneficial to them.

As part of my job as Nanny and my responsibility to take care of all animals, I have decided to write a weekly column entitled Ask Nanny. If you have any questions about The Country Club or about your animal in particular, you can send them to me at
animalcc@sbcglobal.net and I will do my best to respond in a helpful manner. You can also read my column for updates on The Animal Country Club.
